For the second consecutive year, we’re finalists in three categories of the prestigious Retail Technology Innovation Hub (RTIH) Tech Awards. This year’s shortlist places us at the forefront of the Customer Experience Excellence, Technology Implementation of the Year - UK, and Technology Implementation of the Year - Rest of World categories. These nominations underscore our leadership in checkout-free innovation, our ability to solve complex challenges, and our dedication to creating seamless shopping experiences that serve guests and families alike.
In 2023, Zippin was also honored in three categories—Bricks and Mortar Innovation for Zippin Walk-Up, and both Customer Experience Excellence and Implementation Rest of World for our integration with ID Mission’s digital ID verification solution. Here are the recent innovations that brought us to the RTIH spotlight this year:
Zippin Outdoors
Professional sports leagues have embraced frictionless technology to drive sales, increase speed of service, and elevate the fan experience. But there was a glaring limitation to checkout-free—the inability to operate at outdoor events. Checkout-free stores required permanent structures, were complex to install, and the hardware couldn’t hold up to outdoor conditions. Zippin Outdoors makes checkout-free possible at outdoor events– even temporary or traveling festivals.
Zippin’s deployment at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort with DraftServ
In collaboration with Aramark UK, Zippin introduced the UK’s first theme park store with checkout-free shopping—Duplo Coffee at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. Zippin partnered with DraftServ to integrate self-service coffee machines to the checkout-free platform, tracking each guest’s drink selection (e.g., black coffee, lattes) and automatically billing them upon exit. Families benefit from faster, more efficient shopping and more time to enjoy the park rather than standing in lines.
Zippin & Fujitsu at Roland Garros (home to the French Open)
In partnership with Fujitsu and Sodexo Live!, Zippin debuted France’s first checkout-free store at the historic Roland Garros stadium during the 2024 French Open. Nestled within a 125-year-old building, this store delivers a world-class, frictionless retail experience in a legendary setting. Together, the companies balanced technological innovation with the site's historical significance, offering fans fast, frictionless shopping without compromising heritage.
